How to Choose Your Lipstick Tomorrow Morning

Have you ever stopped to consider the Huge decision and statement that come into consideration each morning when making your lipstick color selection? Stepping out and facing the world with the color you choose is a major undertaking if you look at it as I do. It can and does project you personality and ego to the very core. So am I scarring you now? This is certainly only my opinion(expert in my mind) as to the daunting task of facing the world with my Lipstick color daily.

So suppose I choose to step my Red Pump out the door with my Red Lips…Do you have a picture in your mind. CONFIDENCE! and maybe just a little assertive although not obviously in your face. Looking to get what you want without anyone knowing? Try some Red lips with a Black Sassy suit in the am. You will not be disappointed with the outcome.

We had an over abundance of snow today. Excuse me! I live in St.Louis and OH! Did someone miss the calendar saying MARCH? Orange Lipstick is on me today always toned down but still orange. Rebelling AND where is the Sun? On my lips and in my heart. My very own personal picture of Orange. This color exudes happiness blended with just a slight bit of adventure. No Reserve and No need…because you feel comfortable in your Orange. What a Bold color.

Pink is always FUN. Gotta love that girl’s music. It’s so girly, rebellious and yet a bit demure. My thoughts often go to a silly place that is so Hot with a bright, over the top pink which some women seem to think is their personal red. I salute you. Makes me smile. Often girls in Pink seem to be assertive while being flirty. Not something I ever mastered although I enjoy watching them in action. Lesson learned.

Berry is reserved when I am looking to fade into the wall. It is very safe and may make you feel as though you are not committed…to anything. Great gym color although I would not consider it unless I have on some faboulous burgundy new shirt. Make it real deep though and play like a rock star.

Browns…Interesting enough I really love them. Browns make me think of power, wisdom and generally on top of my game. Browns remind me of the person that geniunuely knows something that I need to learn. You know a secret that I know I want to hear.

Please share your thoughts on color selection with me. It’s all so interesting how we women (maybe some men) view all with do in living Technicolor.

Lipstick: Love The Look, Hate The Work!

It was not near lunch yet and I was already reapplying my lipstick. Usually, this was a mindless routine task, but on this morning something snapped. I was all alone and thought to myself in annoyance, "I wish I could just tattoo my lips a natural color and be done with it." The thought was completely foreign to me and I took a second to consider the possibility. "Interesting concept", I thought and then I forgot about it. Tattoos of any kind were way out of my box and one on the lips seemed unthinkable. Two days later, while casually thumbing through a magazine, I discovered there was such a thing as tattooed lipstick. It is called permanent makeup, cosmetic tattoo, dermal pigmentation or micro-pigmentation. Now, after years of freedom from applying lipstick, or practically any makeup, I find it unthinkable to be without my cosmetic tattoos.

Beauty Is Not Pain

I expected a lot of pain when receiving permanent lip color. In fact, it took me five years to muster up the nerve to do it. Finally, while doing extensive training with a permanent makeup practitioner, I decided to trust and put my face in her competent hands. I liked that she is an artist, as I am and her skills as a technician were being clearly and impressively demonstrated to me. It went surprisingly well. For the most part the topical anesthetic worked to block the discomfort, except for small twinges. One especially sharp twinge of pain brought tears to my eyes, but it vanished as quickly as it came. There was no fumbling about, her hands moved efficiently and with an instinct garnered from experience. For an hour or two afterwards my lips felt hot, tender and huge, more than they looked. Nevertheless, I got up from the chair and immediately went to a fine restaurant with a friend, enjoyed myself and took care not to order spicy food. The cosmetic tattoo procedure was simple and caused no inconvenience.

Make Your Lips Look Their Best

There are different options for permanent lip color. The first is a lip line; a single color in a crisp outline around the mouth. The second is a lip shaper; a lip line that is softly blended into the natural lip color. The third is full lip color. The fourth is a combination of full lip color with a lip line or shaper in a slightly darker or different color than the fill. Most lip colors can be achieved, but a good eye and the effective application of basic color theory is essential to success. You will not get the brilliance of topical makeup because permanent makeup is viewed through a veil of skin. Lip balm or gloss will give permanent lip color a lipstick-like sheen. One with sunscreen is always recommended.

The Best Kept Secrets About Permanent Lip Color

The first secret is augmentation. Cosmetic tattoos can create any number of effects on the face. When applying permanent lip color you make small, crisp and precise adjustments in shape that can create symmetry. You can also make lip curves more sensuous, adjust the balance between the upper and lower lip, make the mouth appear slightly larger or smaller, cover scars and even give the lips a subtle upturn. The second secret is based solely on my personal experience and that of some of my clients. It concerns age lines that radiate out around the mouth and tend to fill up with the lipstick you wear. Skillfully applied pigment into the edge of the lips, called the vermilion border, detracts from age lines and may stop or minimize lipstick from bleeding. Granted, it is not often that I apply lipstick, but when I do it stays put. A well-defined vermilion border is not only youthful, but I have been told consistently over the years that my age lines are not visible. I don't believe people were just being nice. The lines are still there, but visually the lips themselves dominate.

Cosmetic Surgery Considerations

What if you wish to address similar lip issues with medical cosmetic procedures? If you choose to get any kind of lip filler, then have permanent makeup done first so the lip shape is clearly established. If you already have lip filler, let it go away completely before having permanent makeup applied. If you wish to treat age lines around the lips, treat them first and then have permanent lip color added later. With these simple tips you can get the most out of your lips and look your best.

Lipstick That Leaves More Than a Mark

Lipstick That Leaves More Than a Mark

They say that being forewarned is being forearmed. This is true, but is that enough? Just because you receive a warning, doesn’t mean you really heard it, nor does it mean that you will act upon it. Too often, we hear about attacks on innocent people, and we think that those things would never happen to us or our friends or family. Yet we hear of the prevalence of predators in the news more and more every day. These attacks are extremely prevalent – more on women than men. There is a way to defend yourself.

Recently, Channel 7 News in Lawton, Oklahoma asked the questions, “Would you know what to do if someone came up behind you in a dark parking lot? What would you do if someone tried forcing open your front door? Would you know how to defend yourself?” One solution is Lipstick Pepper Spray – a subtle and discreet, yet powerful weapon against an attacker.

These questions were part of a Special Report: “Personal Protection (OTC)” that explored personal self defense devices. The report went on to state that “more and more people are utilizing personal defense devices; they can be bought over the counter to fend off attackers. Places such as dark parking lots can be an ideal location for attackers to plan an assault. It can even happen in your own home.”

Statistics show that there are more and more personal attacks – even in areas that traditionally have very low crime rates. “Police and law enforcement related businesses say more and more people are purchasing personal safety devices such as pepper spray (Lipstick Pepper Spray, for instance), stun guns, and mace,” Channel 7 story stated.

In addition, devices are becoming easier to use and more discreet. For instance, pepper spray no longer comes only in a canister which could tip off a would-be attacker. Pepper spray is available in everything from rings to cell phones to pens to the subtle Lipstick Pepper Spray.

The Channel 7 story went on to way that Lea Love’s husband bought her a taser, which is similar to a stun gun but has a much wider range. It shoots barbs up to 15 feet and delivers 50,000 volts of electricity into an assailant – enough to disable an attacker without doing any permanent damage. Lea says she feels empowered because of having the weapon. “I don’t have to worry about killing the bad guy, just immobilizing him until the cops get there,” she remarked.

The Channel 7 story also said that “The bottom line is that personal safety is worth it. Just think carefully about how you will use personal safety devices.”

The best ideas for safety to ensure safety do not revolve around new technology. Here is a list of things we already know but forget when we are in a hurry.
1.Try to stay where there is a lot of people

2.Park and walk in well lit areas

3.Keep your keys in your hand so there is no wasted time when getting in the car

4.Do not carry so many items that you are overloaded or do not have a hand free

5.Park as close to your destination as possible, especially at night

6.Let someone know if you are working late in an office building or need to go to a covered parking garage

7.Scream as loudly as possible or create a scene if there is a problem

8.Never stay after you disable an attacker, leave and find safety and call 911

That being said, it is important to be prepared, have the right tools and know how to use them.

Do Pigs Wear Lipstick?

Do Pigs Wear Lipstick?

We've got it on now, don't we! I'm so glad that I don't have a horse in this race. For the first time that I can remember, I'm not bound up in NEEDING someone to win. I'll make up my mind as to who to vote for after the three debates. One party wants to kill babies and teh otehr party wants to kill our young men in war, while killing other people. Neither party, neither man is wooing me with their rhetoric, not their platforms.

You'd think that Sarah Palin was running for president and McCain as her VP.

Soon enough all the hoopla over Sarah Barracuda will die down and maybe we can get back to talking ISSUES; however, right now it's all about BOAR WARS! What's the difference between the presidential campaign before and after the national political conventions? Lipstick. "You can put lipstick on a pig," Barack Obama told a rally in a reference to a line in Sarah Palin's vice presidential acceptance speech. "It's still a pig. You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change. It's still going to stink after eight years."

Was he talking about Sarah being a PIG? Obama says NO, McCain says YES.

So, let's MUSH ON (pun intended) with a couple days of talking about who meant what and who put a dinger on who. McCain's campaign called the comments "offensive and disgraceful" and said Obama owes Palin an apology. Obama's campaign said he wasn't referring to Palin and said the GOP camp was engaging in a "pathetic attempt to play the gender card." Obama's camp also noted that McCain once used the same phrase to describe Hillary Rodham Clinton's health care plan.

Oh, but that was different! HOLY SOW! Mud wrestling at it's best. But, we've just begin!

The colorful cosmetic has become a political buzzword, thanks to Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin's joke in her acceptance speech that lipstick is the only thing that separates a hockey mom like her from a pit bull. Thank you so much Sarah. :-)

Is There Lead in Your Lipstick?

Is There Lead in Your Lipstick?

The Environmental Working Group is one of my favorite consumer advocacy groups. They hold no bars. No matter how big, powerful or even a respected natural company, EWG says it like it is.

In 2007 EWG reported that the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics (CSC) tested 33 brands of lipstick from various locations in the Northeast. Two television news programs, KCBS and Pittsburgh’s WPXI, both tested several brands as well.

The results were shocking. They found over two-thirds had lead levels higher than the FDA’s allowable level for lead in candy (.1 parts per million (ppm)!

The brands that did contain lead included:

L’Oreal Colour Riche True Red – 0.65 ppm

Cover Girl Incredifull Lipcolor Maximum Red – 0.56 ppm

Dior Addict Positive Red – 0.21 ppm

Burt’s Bee also contained lead, but the founder maintained that the levels should not be of concern.

So how much is too much lead in your lipstick for it to be of concern?

For me, any level!

Lipstick is easily absorbed through the lips and can be ingested as we lick our lips. As lead gets into the blood stream, it is stored in organs, tissues, bones and teeth. If it continues to accumulate in these areas in the body, even in small amounts, it can cause permanent damage to the central nervous system, especially the brain.

The problem stems back to the fact that the FDA does not regulate ingredients in personal care products or cosmetics.

The limits it has set for lead include the maximum allowable dosage levels of (MADL) of .1 ppm in candy, .5 ppm in food and 10 to 20 ppm in FD&C color additives, which according to EWG may be used in color lipsticks. The lead does not have to be listed on the label since it has been added to the color.

For years, we have been warned against lead in paint in old homes and toys purchased from China. Now we need to be careful of cosmetics purchased in stores or online, whether they’re made in the U.S.A. or China.

My suggestion is to buy cosmetics without FD&C colors, especially red.

Lipstick Lore

Lipstick Lore

Choose the right colour

With so many lipstick shades available at every departmental and cosmetic store, it can be hard to decide which one to pick up. Just because you like a particular shade, does not mean it will suit you. So how do you find out which colours are best for you?

As a rough guide, remember:

* Fair skin tones are flattered by blue-undertone reds, light pinks, honey, mocha and beige with pink undertones.

* Medium skin tones look good in rich reds, brownish pinks and medium browns from mocha to caramel.

* Darker skins like brownish reds and plums, sheer pinks, pink-glossed beige and virtually any shade of brown.

Once you've found the colour that's bang-on target, you're almost done - but not quite! The trick lies in the application.

Read on, and get ready to knock 'em dead!

Too Thick?
Play them down!
Lips can never be too fat. Well. almost never. So if you feel you've got more than your share of lip, here's what you can do:

* Define your lips with a lip pencil by lining them just inside the natural lip line.

* Fill in with the same colour lipstick as your lip pencil. It is always advisable to use a lip brush.

* Use a dark, matte lipstick as these make lips appear thinner. Glossy lipsticks give an illusion of fullness, so stay away from them.

* Dab your lips with a little bit of powder, to tone them down. Et voila! You're all set for a night on the town!

Too Thin?
Play them up!
So who said too much sex appeal is injurious to health? If you're looking to get hot, in-your-face lips that really stand out, here's what to do:

* Apply lip liner just outside your lip line or at the outermost edge. Whatever you do, don't try to make lips look thicker by drawing on an artificial outline that's outside your natural lip line.

* Follow with lipstick. The shade could be lighter than the lip pencil. This gives the illusion of depth.

* Use frosted shades, and load on the gloss. Stay away from matte lipsticks, or follow with a touch of gloss.

Lipstick Pepper Spray – First Dates Can be Dangerous so be Prepared in Case of Trouble

Lipstick Pepper Spray –
First Dates Can be Dangerous so be Prepared in Case of Trouble

Ladies, you must be prepared to protect yourself when you go on a date, especially for the first time!

Lipstick Pepper Spray will give any lady the edge over anyone who tries to get frisky or aggressive.

Just listen to your local news, especially in a big city, about how many women are beaten, raped and even abducted while on a date.

Blind dates are not anything new and many women have had good experiences from the date. It’s usually set up by a friend or relative. Yes, this guy has a great personality or is very intellectual or is good at sports or is rich…

And, most of this information is usually true, even if the truth is stretched a little.

But if you can trust your friend who set the date up, at least you can feel relatively safe with this person on the first date.

What about the Dating Services where people are screened and match you up with your dream guy. Hopefully the person’s data is screened and checked out before he’s allowed to join the service which will give you some sense of safety when you meet your date for the first time.

And what about those women who are ‘hooking up’ with men they’ve talked to on the Internet? What do they know about them? In today’s times it is often difficult to find out additional information about who they really are.

Many women will say, “Oh I just got to know him so well that we just had to meet….” How many times have you heard this from your friends? And hopefully you talked them out of it and probably kept them from having a bad time or even worse.

Regardless of how you will meet, how about ‘arming’ yourself before your big date, just in case this ‘great guy’ isn’t what you thought.

We’re all used to seeing women apply their lipstick at any time so if the guy doesn’t seem right, take the Lipstick Pepper Spray out of your purse. He’ll never suspect that it’s not what it’s supposed to be so he won’t mind if you freshen up a bit.

You’ve heard the expression ‘go for the eyes’ – well, here’s the chance to spray this creep directly in the face and eyes with the Lipstick Pepper Spray.

He will immediately stop what he’s doing (or wanted to do) and his face will contort, eyes will be burning and streaming, and uncontrollable coughing will usually bring him to his knees and this gives you the chance to get the heck out of there and call 911. Don’t stand around and admire your work -- Get Out of There!

Some women are concerned that they will hurt the guy. Are you kidding? This creep just tried something on you and you’re lucky that you had a deterrent such as Lipstick Pepper Spray to stop him in his tracks.

He’s lucky it wasn’t something worse that would cause permanent damage.

By the way, the effects caused by Pepper Spray are temporary and not life threatening. The guy might think he’s dying but it only lasts for about 30-40 minutes unless he’s dumb enough to rub his eyes and face which only makes the Pepper Spray work even longer. Tough!

Please don’t go anywhere without Lipstick Pepper Spray. It’s small and easy to carry but might just save you from real trouble some day.
